Tam returns back to a town she once lives, while Nova works at her grandmothers' bookshop; she helps in the store where they loan out speel books and deal with supernatural things that happen in their town. Soon they learn about a demon in the woods. I enjoyed the magic and spells of the town but my favorite part of this book is the characters. I love Novas' grandmothers, they are sweet and care; open-minded and willing to help those who are in need. Nova and Tam are too cute! I enjoyed seeing their relationship grow from childhood friends to where they are now. I also enjoyed Novas' parents not going to say anymore as that could be seen as a spoiler but I enjoyed how they play into the story. The magic in this book is well based, not overpowered while still being the main part of this story. I love the bookshop, the spell books are neat and somehow have their own personalities. And now onto the part, I enjoy this style of art so much. It fits the story very well; I like the colors and the way magic is drawn into this world. Overall, this book put a spell on me, once starting reading I couldn't stop; this magical bookshop pulled me in with these diverse that made me feels so much.

https://wonderstruck-kcks.blogspot.com/2019/08/review-of-mooncakes-story-of-love-and.html#comment-form
{"$t":"KayCee_K
$t":"http://www.blogger.com/profile/07678361428987225586
$t":"noreply@blogger.com"},"gd$image":
"thr$total":{"$t":"0
$t":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7092837810151315197.post-6931523371081722426
$t":"2019-07-04T03:30:00.000-07:00
$t":"2019-07-04T03:30:03.373-07:00
"$t":"- Queen of the Sea - Graphic Novel - Review -
html","$t":"

Cult graphic novelist Dylan Meconis offers a rich reimagining of history in this hybrid novel loosely based on the exile of Queen Elizabeth I by her sister, Queen Mary.

When her sister seizes the throne, Queen Eleanor of Albion is banished to a tiny island off the coast of her kingdom, where the nuns of the convent spend their days peacefully praying, sewing, and gardening. I enjoyed the story and the classic feel that it has. It is lightly based on Elizabeth 1 and her sister, Mary. We follow a girl who grows up on an island with nuns. We see her grow as a character. The way these character relationships change and develop over these pages. I enjoyed the way the royalty, religion, and government plays into this book. The art in the book is simple and have this classic art feeling that fits so well, I like the color tones and the vibe it puts off. However, I did find part of the story slow but I had fun reading it; finished it in one day.

View all my reviews

I was given a copy, however, this is my 100% honest review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I’ve been writing and illustrating my own stories since the first grade, and I’ve been making comic books since middle school (no, really! Upon returning to the city of Khelathra-Ven after five years fighting a war in another universe, Captain John Wyndham finds himself looking for somewhere to live, and expediency forces him to take lodgings at 221b Martyrs Walk. His new housemate is Ms. Shaharazad Haas, a consulting sorceress of mercurial temperament and dark reputation. When Ms. Haas is enlisted to solve a case of blackmail against one of her former lovers, Miss Eirene Viola, Captain Wyndham finds himself drawn into a mystery that leads him from the salons of the literary set to the drowned back-alleys of Ven and even to a prison cell in lost Carcosa. Along the way he is beset by criminals, menaced by pirates, molested by vampires, almost devoured by mad gods, and called upon to punch a shark. But the further the companions go in pursuit of the elusive blackmailer, the more impossible the case appears. Then again, in Khelathra-Ven reality is flexible, and the impossible is Ms. Haas' stock-in-trade.

The Affair of the Mysterious Letter by Alexis Hall
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

This story follows Captain John, a trans-gendered who was hurt in a space war, and Ms. Haas is cleaver, pansexual. They agree to give him their sacred, enchanted River Pearl in exchange for permanent protection—if he’ll marry one of the village girls to solidify the alliance. Anlei is appalled when the viceroy selects her as a bride, but with the fate of her people at stake, she sees no choice but to consent. Anlei’s noble plans are sent into a tailspin, however, when a young thief steals the River Pearl for himself. Knowing the viceroy won’t protect her village without the jewel, she takes matters into her own hands. But once she catches the thief, she discovers he needs the pearl just as much as she does. The two embark on an epic quest across the land and into the Courts of Hell, taking Anlei on a journey that reveals more is at stake than she could have ever imagined.
