This is my first time joing Summer TBR Wipeout over on The Candid Cover. Why? Becuase why not.... and I have many books I've been pushing back to read newer book. I wanna knock off some older books and felt that this could help me do that, now I've done that it's now it's time for an update. I didn't read all the books I wanted to at this time, but I knocked off four book. And I am more than happy with with. I have one more post from not until the next post for the week of Augush 13th. I am hoping that I will be able to read 'A Wrinkle in Time' and 'Clockwork Angle'. But I am in the middle of three other books right now, I'm not giving up. Reading as much as I can to get to these last two books!
Free book of 38 poems about people wandering the world, searching for something new, with their suitcase of dreams.
Travelling Light by Vickie Johnstone is one of my favorite poetry books I've read this year. The poem 'Dreamers' has the opening line "She lives among the dragons, stars and unicorns The fairytale world born in her wildest dreams." Could be my favorite line in this whole book. Vickie Johnstone knows how to play with words and brings joy to poetry. If you don't read much poetry, this book is a great place for you to start becuase of poems like Moon over Sand, Hope, Little Boy Leaps & so many more!

It's summer and time for soonyYA reads and this book fits right in to that theme. I enjoy hate to love trope and this story is hugly that. I did feel that becuase of that it ourshine the character Quinn herself, but other than that its a wounderful read. I felt that I couldn't help but root for these characters. Even though the 'love hate' is a cliché the writing and plotting is great. I never felt board, and wanted to see where the story would go. This book is sweet as ice-cream!Author Bio:

Review
I love stories that have to do with space and alien, so I enjoyed this story. I found the first half of the story a bit slow for a space book, but felt that it did lead and help build the world and characters. I also, enjoy when someone has to act and play a role to save, in this case, the many different races. I love the tech in the world, and how the aliens have their own culture. The push and pull between characters really carry this book.
Once, I get about 50-60% I started liking the book even more. Though I didn't contact with any characters, my favorite part is the world. The culture, tech and the style of this world.
I have to say that this YA sci-fi romance from debut author Chani Lynn Feener is an enjoyable read. And that Author Chani Lynn Feener, writing style flows, and building of her world is wonderful. Space romance makes a fun read!

Sixteen-year-old Ivy Higgins is the only student at Carmel Heights High School who listens to cassettes. And her binder is the only one decorated with album artwork by 80s band Chasing Eveline. Despite being broken-up since 1989, this rock band out of Ireland means everything to Ivy. They’re a reminder of her mom, who abandoned Ivy and her dad two years ago. Now the music of her mom’s favorite band is the only connection she has left.
Even though Ivy wavers between anger and a yearning to reconnect, she’s one-hundred percent certain she’s not ready to lose her mom forever. But the only surefire way to locate her would be at a Chasing Eveline concert. So with help from her lone friend Matt—an equally abandoned soul and indie music enthusiast—Ivy hatches a plan to reunite the band.
The road to Ireland won’t be easy, though. And not just because there is no road. Along the way they’ll have to win over their Lady Gaga-loving peers, tangle with some frisky meerkats, and oh yeah, somehow find and persuade the four members to play a reunion gig. It’s a near-impossible task, but Ivy has to try. If she can’t let go of the past, she’ll never be able to find joy in the present.
Excerpt:
They say music is the key to the soul. Or maybe it’s the heart. I can’t remember exactly what my mom said that day she danced into my room with a new record for me to hear. I was only in the fourth grade, but I became a believer. I remember so vividly how the drums rattled deep within my chest and the lyrics I didn’t even understand seemed to whisper secrets meant only for me. The song lingered inside me for days. My mom swooned and told me that’s why music must be shared.
So when I saw the desperate school blog post calling for a volunteer DJ at tonight’s Back to School Dance, I jumped at the chance. The music my friend Matt and I plan to throw into the mix is a giant master key. I just hope it will open the teenage hearts in this musty gym and linger inside them long after the last balloon deflates. This music is important to me.
I nudge Matt, whose face is glued to the computer screen at our DJ table. A vibrating speaker to our left thumps out music, so I yell into his ear, “Is the set list ready?”
He tilts his head toward me. “Geez, Ivy. I just plugged in the flash drive.”
“Okay, sorry.” I step away. He sweeps his blond hair out of his eyes and returns his focus to the computer.
I pace behind him, a nervous left followed by an excited right and back again. The musical brilliance of the greatest guitarist of all time will soon weave through these bodies and drift into every ear. My heart floats up with the blue and yellow balloons hovering like a latex fog.
My hand strums on my thigh while Matt continues to fuss with the computer. Near the gym entrance, Principal Henry stands with Narc 1 and Narc 2, and a wave of yawns travels across them. The newbie freshmen line the walls and cluster in groups. The scene resembles a casting call for an acne medication ad.
The dull atmosphere isn’t helped by the annoyingly synthetic pop noise blasting through the speakers. After I offered our free DJ services to Karen, the Dance Committee Chairperson, she gave us a mix of music tracks to play. She was grateful to have saved some precious dollars for this year’s prom, but
I’m not sure she trusted two no-name juniors to get the job done.
However, after listening to thirty minutes of her set list, I’m seriously questioning the cool factor of the popular crowd. Karen’s mix features some of the worst radio music of all time. Every song is a mere echo of the previous one—peppy beats and vacuous lyrics about hook-ups and partying. I can’t even tell if the voices belong to boys, girls, or machines.
I tap Matt’s shoulder. “Are you almost finished?” I nearly have to scream.
“Yeah. I’m just making sure we have the songs in the right order.” He turns around and leans toward me. “Ivy, you really want to do this?”
I smile at him and hope he doesn’t see all the tiny cracks waiting to splinter. “We’re just sharing some great music. It’ll be fine.”

Mitchell Morrison and Josie Sedgwick have spent their whole lives at the Indian Paintbrush Community Village, a commune full of colorful characters tucked in the mountains of North Carolina, and they aren’t particularly close–at least, not anymore. Josie wishes she could spend all of her time at Paintbrush planting tomatoes, hiking the trails, or throwing giant communal birthday parties, while Mitchell can’t wait to escape the bizarre spiritual sharing and noisy community dinners. Luckily for both of them, high school graduation is just around the corner.
But when Mitchell’s mother makes a scandalous announcement that rocks the close-knit Paintbrush community, and Josie’s younger sister starts to make some dangerously bad decisions, the two find themselves leaning on each other for support – and looking at each other in a whole new light. Their childhood friendship blossoms in to something more as they deal with their insane families, but as graduation approaches, so does life in the real world, forcing Josie and Mitchell to figure out what, exactly, their relationship is – and if it can survive their very different plans for the future.

“Hi.” I tighten my grip on her waist, and she moves her hand from my shoulder, sliding her fingertips slowly, until they rest on the back of my neck. I close my eyes.
When I open them again, she’s staring at me, her face so close I can see the flecks of brown in her green eyes. It would be so easy to kiss her. Just a few inches. It would be the easiest thing in the world.

“We’re a mess, aren’t we?” He grins at me.
I can’t help it—I lean into him, pressing my shoulder into his, wanting to feel his warmth and his soft sweatshirt, wanting to be a part of that smile.
I shrug. “All the best people are messy.”

First, I have to say I enjoyed the author's writing style, and how she builds her characters. But this book didn't feel young adult, it's felt middle grade. With that said, if it was pitched as a middle grade I would have liked it that much more because I went in thinking it was a YA and expecting things more YA feel.
With that said, I did enjoy this book. I like how it's a book written by the main character herself when she was old. I like how the arts play a huge part in this story. There are a few characters who get bullying, as someone who has been in those shoes, I felt that the scenes were written well. Like I said before, this isn't a bad story. I enjoyed it, there's a mix of different kinds of girls, with all different kind of problems. Filled with many lessons for young girls. Kallie is by far my favorite character in this book, her free ways, standing up for what she believes in and her friends; are amazing. While the main character, Hilary, who at times I wanted to yell at, is a girl who learns many lessons, who finds your writing about in the book.
One of the parts I enjoyed most about this story was there is a scene where Hilary's class was to do a project showing their family roots. I have been looking into my own family roots, so I enjoy and books that have anything to do with that, even if it's just a few pages.

Sci-fi novels are on of my favorite genre but being set in the future couldn't get better for me but then this book adds a twist of also has a bit of a fantasy setting. I enjoy sci-fi because of the technology in them. This book is set in the same world as the Authors other book but with a different plot and cast. I love authors who write many books inside one world. We get to learn more about the world.
Carina is a great character; who's smart & strong! She's a scientist. Once, part of a team scientists. But something happens to her and she's a different person than who she once was.
This book is told from three different characters point of views Carina, Dax, and Dr. Roz. I enjoy seeing the story from all the characters point of view.
This plot is strong, world building a little soft but the characters make this book. A diverse cast of characters, with a fast pacing plot!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Laura Lam was born in the late eighties and raised near San Francisco, California, by two former Haight-Ashbury hippies. Both of them encouraged her to finger-paint to her heart’s desire, colour outside the lines, and consider the library a second home. This led to an overabundance of daydreams.
After studying literature and creative writing at university, she relocated to Scotland to be with her husband, a boy she met online when they were teenagers and he insulted her taste in books and she insulted his right back. She almost blocked him but is glad she didn’t. She is now a dual citizen, but at times she misses the sunshine.
While working a variety of jobs from filing and photocopying endlessly at a law firm to library assistant to corporate librarian, she began writing in earnest. Her first book, Pantomime, the first book in the Micah Grey series, was released in 2013, which was a Scottish Book Trust Teen Book of the Month, won the Bisexual Book Award, was listed a Top Ten Title for the American Library Association List, and was nominated for several other awards. Robin Hobb says “Pantomime by Laura Lam took me into a detailed and exotic world, peopled by characters that I’d love to be friends with . . . and some I’d never want to cross paths with.” The sequel, Shadowplay, followed in 2014, as well as several the Vestigial Tales, self-published short stories and novellas set in the same world. The third book in the series, Masquerade, will follow in 2017.
Her newest book is False Hearts, a near-future thriller released in June 2016 by Tor/Macmillan and in three other languages. Peter F. Hamilton calls False Hearts “a strong debut from someone who’s clearly got what it takes.” Another thriller, Shattered Minds, will be released in 2017.
She is still hiding from sunshine in Scotland and writing more stories.
