Growing up on the mean streets of Chicago prepared Diamond Dunbar for almost anything. With her sights set on a college education, she’s ready to live the dream.
Her boyfriend, Allen built his reputation on ruthlessness. After making a questionable business arrangement with Diamond, he pulls the rug right out from under her. Enter, Max, he’s enthralled with Diamond. He’s a sucker for a damsel in distress. Diamond can’t resist the attention of Max. Yes, he’s tall, dark and handsome but can she trust him with her secret?

Can he help her navigate through her muddled world of secrets, lies, and betrayal? When trust is an option. Trust no one!

Is trust an option?

Hours later Diamond stood at the window and watch the cold, dreary Chicago day, and tried not to think about Allen or where he might be.
Distress tautened Diamond’s face. She bit her lip and sigh. “You know Allen was lying when he said he pays the rent on this place,” she exhaled. “Allen hasn’t paid the rent for the last two months.”
The weight of her words slammed into Cupcake’s chest, almost knocking the breath out of her. “What?”
Diamond waved her hand. “Oh, I’m not worried, everything will be okay. All I have to do is just give Allen some time, he’ll come around.”
Cupcake glanced back at Diamond standing by the window. Her heart went out to her. She poured herself another cup of coffee and reached for a fresh cup and filled it. “Diamond, come have a cup of coffee with me.”
She carried the cups of coffee over to the table and sat down. “Diamond did you get a chance to check with Max and see if he would speed, your financial aid application through?”
Diamond heard the urgency in her voice and walked over and sat down. She lifted her cup of coffee and slowly took a sip.
“Don’t act like you didn’t hear me, Diamond Jolene Dunbar,” this is Wanda Faye Potts, sitting here girl,” she said sourly, as she spun around in her chair and stared back at her best friend.
“Cupcake,” I’m not impressed with your trying to act like you’re ticked off at me. Besides, I know your real name is Wanda Faye Potts. I know who you are.”
“Then you know that I am your oldest, wisest and dearest friend. I’ve known you since you were a girl growing up in the Cabrini Green Projects.”
