Review: The Heartbreakers by Ali Novak

"When I met Oliver Perry, I had no clue he was the lead singer for The Heartbreakers. Unbeknownst to him, I was the only girl in the world who hated his music."

Since Cara's health has been deteriorating, all Stella Walter can think about is trying to cheer her sister up. Her life revolves around Cara to the point where Stella drops out of one of the country's top photography programs so she can spend what little time she has left with her sick sister.

With Cara's birthday around the corner, Stella wants to get her the perfect gift. An autographed poster of her sister's favorite boy band should do the trick. Sounds simple enough, right? But life isn't always so easy.

Not only does Stella hate The Heartbreakers because of their terrible music, but when she realizes that the cute boy she met at Starbucks is really Oliver Perry, the lead singer of the band, her life seems to spin out of control...

Will Stella be able to swallow her pride and get the autograph that she so desperately needs to make Cara happy? And will Oliver be able to show Stella how to live her own life again?

Meet... The Heartbreakers.

The Heartbreakers (The Heartbreaker Chronicles #1) by Ali Novak

I couldn’t wait to wait to read this once I found it on NetGalley and was over the moon happy when I found out that I got to review it. So, the basic plot it girl meets boyband-ish, falls for one of the members, she gets a dream job, then gets two more amazing offers while this is all happing she has a sick sitter who’s in love with the same band. I can easily understand her sitters love of this band as I love, love so many bands. There is much more to the story then the things I just named. But the lead girl of this story, Stella is trying to find herself while wanting to do what’s best for her sitter. This is something I relate to as most of the time I put my brothers and sister first. I had a strong feeling I knew how the lead guy and girl would play out and for the most part I was right. Most of the time I am not a fan of stories that I can easily tell how they would end but there was a few twists and turn. With stories that have bands and girls that somehow meet and fall in love I have a soft spot for them and love how they end.

Stella has a brother, Drew, who brings a lot to the story. He seems to play the older and younger brother roll to Stella and Cara. I love how the writer, Ali Novak, has the skill to make him a changing role that’s needed in this story. The band, The Hearbeakers, is made of four different guys. JJ, Xander, Alec and Oliver. JJ is crazy, noisy and big heart. Xander is caring, friendly, and bit of a geeky look but in a great way. Alec who is sweet, shy but always seems to understand. Oliver is witty, passionate, and moody. All of these guys play a part that if one of them weren’t there I feel the story wouldn’t work. I think Alec maybe my favorite member.

So with all that said I enjoyed this story it only took me a few days to finish. These pages are filled with a band, family and characters that lives were meet to intertwine. If you like a classic love story of a band and girl with twists them this is for you! I can’t wait to see what is next for Stella, Cara, Drew and The Hearbeakers!
